Boston Emissions began airing on 104.1fm WBCN in the 1980s (reportedly 1987, according to Carter Alan’s book about WBCN). Throughout this time the show has been instrumental in introducing and establishing hundreds of Boston and New England bands.
The mission of the show, and its online presence, is to expose and support independent bands and artists - of varying rock styles - from Boston and New England (Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut).
Updated on July 3, 2014: If you are interested in the 2015 Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble, your work already began. The list is growing. I recommend you read through this. Here is a Boston venue list used for Boston Emissions each week. Are you playing around these rooms?

THIS IS THE SHOW’S CONTACT EMAIL. PLEASE EMAIL THERE DIRECTLY. Mailing lists end up in the spam vortex. Thank you.
-Please include radio edits for songs with swears. Let me know what songs are clean.
Send music in time for Sunday night’s show. Not Monday morning.
I use email only. It is very unlikely that I will respond to music sent via facebook or twitter. I will not use Spotify, ITunes, Myspace or Reverbnation.
Email me when you are releasing a song, a record, EP, video, doing a show, planning an event, have a question or want information.
I will help however I can.
The best way to get played more regularly is to be in touch with me.
Regularly. This will require some work on your part.
Take a minute and be specific with the info that you send to me. Be personal as in someone from the band should email the show.

HEAVY is the heavy/metal show feature. Heavy bands should send music and band information. I really do try to listen to everything and appreciate you sending music.
The best sounding bands who are playing out will get priority.
I leave it up to you to keep in touch and update me about upcoming shows. The BEST way to be played is to keep in touch with the show.
Please do not email me every week asking if I got it or when I’ll play it. If it sounds good and you keep me posted on what your band is doing it will eventually get played.
The Golden Unicorn award-winning (RIP BBC) submission requests:
What I play: Everything. That is good. From Boston and New England.
I play heavy stuff. I play arty stuff. I play dance stuff. Just send it.
I concentrate on active Boston and New England bands that are regularly playing out in the live venues in the Boston area. There is more to being local than the location you give on your band page. Are you playing out in Boston and the area? Are you getting involved in the local music community?
How to get played: The audio quality is as important as the musicianship. I will give new bands a chance but you must consider how it will sound up against what you hear on the show regularly.
Update your band information! I use Facebook, Bandcamp, Twitter, Tumblr, Wordpress to learn about you and follow up.
- Set google alerts to receive notification when your band is mentioned.
- Send show emails with all the info in time for that Sunday’s show.
I base a lot of my playlists on that week’s upcoming shows.
Want more? Learn a little about my show and me. Send an email, say hello. It is a great idea if an actual band member reaches out. And I really do not care who has played you, who has booked you, what shows you did, what contest you won, who you know, who you work with, or who you are related to. I choose what is played based on the music. Namedropping is dumb. You might go on and on about someone I think is an assbasket.
